The project

We have all ordered pizza in front of a full fridge

Occasional Chef starts from that exact moment: it is 7 pm, you are hungry, there is food in the house, and still nothing comes to mind. That is the block we are trying to clear.

The project came out of an ordinary frustration. We are not chefs, we do not run a restaurant, we cook for our families at night like everyone else. And like everyone else, we knew that Tuesday black hole: a few ingredients lying around, twenty minutes to spare, and the reflex of opening a delivery app because thinking about a meal took more energy than the day had left.

What we actually do

Two things. First, a generator that starts from what you really have on hand. You list three or four ingredients, say how much time you have, and it suggests a recipe that makes sense. It is not magic and it is not a Michelin chef in your pocket. It helps you make the decision, nothing more, and on a weeknight that is already a lot.

Second, a recipe collection and a blog. The times we give are those of an ordinary kitchen, with a burner that heats the way it heats and one pair of hands. If a recipe says thirty minutes and it takes you fifty, write to us and we will fix the recipe.

What we believe

Everyday cooking does not need to be complicated to be good. A one-dollar pot of lentils, well seasoned, beats a fancy dish that did not work. We would rather have an honest recipe that works every time than a spectacular one nobody makes twice.

We hate waste. A good part of what we publish comes back to one simple idea: cook what you already have, finish leftovers without it showing, buy in season because it tastes better and costs less. It is not a pose, just common sense we have often lost along the way.

And we want to be honest about money. Some pages contain affiliate links: if you buy a tool through one of them, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We only recommend gear we would use ourselves, and we say so clearly every time. The rest of the site is free, and most of it will stay that way.

Who writes, and how

Articles are signed by the Occasional Chef team, a small group attached to OmniLearn Consulting Commerce LLC. No Michelin chef or nutritionist hiding behind a pen name: we would rather sign as a team than credit someone with degrees they do not have.

On storing leftovers or cooking poultry, we give kitchen guidelines, not medical advice. When in doubt about a food, throw it out. A reported mistake is corrected on the page itself, not hidden.

What comes next

We add recipes regularly, grow the blog, and keep improving the generator. If you have an idea, a dish that works in your kitchen, or just a comment, write to us. We read everything, and the best ideas rarely come from us.

In short

Tested recipes, a generator for the nights you have no idea what to cook, and no fluff. Everyday cooking, for real.
